The NBA buyout market is another intriguing aspect of the NBA season after the trade deadline. Players that get their contracts bought out or take a paycut in order to join a contender or a team they’d like to join during the season.
Let’s get into some of the top NBA buyout players and landing spots…
Goran Dragic, PG
Dragic is a veteran point guard that can shoot and be a valuable asset to a contending team with his presence itself. He’s still capable of being a 6th man or even a starter in some cases for a contending team that is pushing to make some noise. Expect teams like the Mavericks, Heat, Lakers, and other playoff contenders to target the Slovenian guard.
Landing spots: Mavericks, Heat, Lakers
Enes Freedom, C
Freedom is still capable of being an offensive weapon and great rebounder for a contending team. Enes was one of the best buyouts a few years ago when he was released by the Knicks and provided valuable minutes for the TrailBlazers in their 2019 playoff run. Freedom is still valuable as he’s able to crash the boards at an elite level and provide solid minutes off the bench. Although he’s a terrible defender, he’s capable of being a net-positive with his rebounding and inside presence on the offensive end.
Some teams will probably look away from Freedom as he’s been seen as a distraction by some with his rants, but he can still be a valuable asset for teams during their playoff run.
Landing spots: 76ers, Mavericks, Nets
Dennis Schroder, PG
Dennis Schroder will definitely be a hot name during the buyout market for teams. Even though Schroder is shooting awfully this year from the field, he’s still a player that can provide solid minutes off the bench or in a limited starting role. He’s capable of making plays for others and occasionally having some hot-streak shooting nights.
Landing spots: Bucks, Mavericks, Heat, Lakers, Jazz
