Now 50 days away from the NBA tipoff games, all kinds of predictions on what the next season might entail are taking over the internet. Among the most controversial ones is the list of players in need of redemption. Due to their subpar performance throughout last season, these three players must bounce back in order to maintain their legacy. Will they be able to do so?
Russell Westbrook
The 34-year-old Lakers guard’s performance was a subject of scrutiny for both the media and fans this last season. Whether it was due to his poor selection or turnovers, or abysmal shooting, it is clear that Westbrook needs to get back on track for the start of the 2022-2023 NBA season. Furthermore, since everything indicates he will continue playing with the Los Angeles team, his explosive, MVP-level performances will be of great importance, placing the Lakers among the strongest candidates for winning the title.
James Harden
Similar to Westbrook, Harden had many struggles last season. However, his recent arrival in Philadelphia was a blessing in disguise. Since he is no longer the “franchise player” of his team, he now has more room to explore other aspects of his game, which is helping him become a more versatile player overall. Of course, this does not mean he is not a valuable asset to the team anymore. It actually means quite the opposite, as he is on his way to being a perfect fit for the 76ers and Joel Embiid. As long as he continues with these shifts, his team will hold the chance of having a fantastic playoff run.
Jayson Tatum
Even though Tatum was part of the reason the Celtics qualified for last year’s finals, he failed to maintain consistency in the series against the Golden State Warriors, especially with decisive shots, which arguably cost Boston the title. While the lack of experience might have been a determining factor for this loss, he is perfectly capable of bouncing back. Hopefully, we can witness his redemption this upcoming season, with him proving himself as the Celtics’ best player alongside Jaylen Brown, improving his shot selection in clutch-time and crucial games.
Having analyzed where these three players’ careers stand ahead of the start of next season, it is safe to say they all have the tools and talent to bounce back to their golden years. We are looking forward to seeing their respective teams thrive.
