A 2020 song by The Weeknd captures my true feelings regarding how you must feel being a Lakers fan right now.
He sings ’This place (this place) is never what it seems
Take me out, LA
Take me out of LA (take me out, LA)
This place will be the end of me’
As a fan of this team, it is so tough not to be disappointed. You have arguably the greatest player to ever live in LeBron James being asked to carry the famous franchise on his back. The man is 38 the fact that he is being asked to do this is a gross misuse of his talent, no one not even of someone of LeBron’s caliber should be expected to achieve this. You have arguably one of the worst shooting lineups in the NBA surrounding one of the greatest passers in the game’s history. 29% through two games is disgusting and a backcourt of Beverley and Westbrook certainly aren’t helping their shooting woes.
To talk about Anthony Davis is difficult because when he is playing and healthy, there is no doubt in my mind that he is a Top 5 player in our league. However, the issue is he is never healthy. Davis has only ever played 70 games twice in a season which for a team that is relying on him to take the reigns from the King isn’t enough Basketball. Davis needs to find a way to stay on the floor as Darvin Ham’s system is bringing out some of the best basketball that I have seen AD play in years.
Lastly, Westbrook is arguably one of the most criticized players in NBA history, a man that we all praised for averaging a triple-double on the KD revenge tour. But he is now being slandered and tarnished by a fit that Russell Westbrook himself couldn’t pull off. The solution is to trade him now before he loses more value the mock trade to Charlotte would be the best return. Getting a young guard in Rozier and the wing shooting of Gordon Hayward.
So as mentioned earlier, I believe they need to take Westbrook out of LA. Because currently, the Lakers are not as they seem and they need to do some serious work to be in contention in the West, because if they don’t it will be the end of them.
