Former Minnesota Vikings star running back Dalvin Cook was just released on Thursday morning (6/8). Dalvin Cook is still only 27 and was likely released due to his $10.4M cap hit. The Vikings do save about $9M by releasing Cook, giving them some breathing space.
Cook is still one of the best running backs in the league when healthy. He’s posted 4 straight 1,000 yard rushing seasons and has been consistently a threat as a receiver out of the backfield as well.
Expect Cook to have ton of interest, here are some teams to look out for…
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins offense is already pretty stacked with Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill at receiver. What they’ve needed for a while is a reliable running back to help their QB.
Enter Dalvin Cook. Cook would help create arguably one of the best trios in the league with Waddle/Hill/Cook. Not only do you have to worry about the receivers on the outside, but Cook bursting through the middle and causing havoc.
A move that could alleviate some of the pressure off of Tua and also give another dynamic to the Dolphins offense.
Buffalo Bills
One thing I noticed in the Bills loss against the Bengals in the playoffs was the inability to run the ball.
Sure, Josh Allen is one of the best at running out of the pocket and making plays with his legs. Sadly though, he can’t be the only one. They need a player that can take some damage and scare defenses.
Dalvin Cook would do just that. His fit would be almost seamless and honestly, this is the best fit for him to win. Not to mention, he gets to play with his little brother.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are in the middle of a reconstruction. Not necessarily a rebuild, but a reconstruction to put themselves in contention mode again.
Getting Dalvin Cook, who’s a decent upgrade over Cam Akers could prove to be a valuable move.
Matthew Stafford has always liked his backs with the ability to catch the ball (Theo Riddick,Joique Bell, etc.), Dalvin Cook does a pretty good job at that.
