It seems like another wide receiver is on the trade market and not just any wide receiver, an All-Pro wide receiver in Deebo Samuel. Deebo Samuel had over 1,400 receiving yards and over 365 rushing yards this season and was an unstoppable weapon for the 49ers all year in different ways.
According to Tom Pelissero via the Rich Eisen Show, Deebo Samuel wants to be a “true” wide receiver now and not be used as an RB/WR hybrid anymore. He claims that the money isn’t the issue, but more of his usage.
Let’s get into some teams that could potentially use a new “true” WR1…
New York Jets
If the Jets are serious about Zach Wilson, they’re going to need to put some weapons around him. They’ve got some solid receivers in Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, but they scream more of #2 and #3 receivers, no true #1s. That’s where you add in Deebo Samuel, he could stretch the field and take the top off the defense and prove to be a weapon for the Jets and Zach Wilson.
Look at how Joe Burrow was able to utilize Ja’Marr Chase in their first year together in the NFL, Wilson could use an elite receiver like that to help him sometimes. I think this should be a no-brainer move for the Jets, go get your #1 receiver for your young quarterback.
Baltimore Ravens
I like Marquise Brown and Rashod Bateman, I think they’re both really good receivers and have the potential to even be star receivers, but they’re no Deebo Samuel. I’m still very skeptical of Lamar Jackson’s passing, but I think getting a weapon like Deebo Samuel that will find ways to get open will help in his development.
Deebo Samuel would come in and immediately take over as the #1 receiver position for the Ravens and torch defenses. This won’t only help Lamar, but also force defenses to be in a pick-your-poison deal with Marquise Brown and Rashod Bateman out wide as well and not to mention, Mark Andrews. Lamar Jackson is a weapon on his own and getting another weapon in Deebo Samuel?
Yeah, good luck defenses.
New England Patriots
The Patriots love being connected to available wide receivers and them being connected to Deebo wouldn’t be any surprise to anyone. Patriots are another team with no true #1 receiver and they need to surround their young franchise quarterback in Mac Jones with one. Deebo Samuel would immediately come in as the #1 option for the Patriots and create fear for opposing defenses.
I think Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers are decent receivers, but they don’t bring fear into opposing defenses right now. Getting a Deebo Samuels will do just that.
