What’s Next for The Eagles?

As an Eagles fan, it has been absolutely hard for me to watch my team this season. Do you know that feeling of knowing that your team will lose the game no matter who the opponent is? Yeah, this is what I feel about this Eagles team. One simple word to describe them right now is TERRIBlE! This is a bad team right now and they have so many problems from QB, Coach, GM, O-line, WR, DB.

There needs to be some major changes to this team going forward…

1. GM Howie Roseman

Howie Roseman hasn’t done his job for the Eagles in recent years. Whether it’s drafting young players or even picking up pieces to help the team win games in Free Agency.

Since taking the realms from Chip Kelly in 2016, he has only drafted one Pro-Bowler since that time and that is Carson Wentz with the second overall pick.

The whole 2017 NFL draft glass was a flop. Out of the eight players that were drafted that year, only two remain with the team in Nate Gerry (who shouldn’t be in the league) and Derek Barnett an average defensive end.

Also, don’t forget he drafted J.J. Arcega-Whiteside over D.K. Metcalf and Terry McLaurin. He also drafted Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson who yesterday reached 1,000 yards for the season.

He hasn’t been able to give the Eagles enough young talent and it shows with the injuries. With the 3-8-1 Eagles, they just seem to be a team filled with veterans and since 2016, haven’t been able to get much production from their young players.

2. Doug Pederson

Even if Peterson is a Super Bowl winning coach. That doesn’t mean that his job isn’t at risk. The way the team is playing this year… he might be done with the Eagles.

As I stated before, the Eagles are 3-8-1 right now. In games like the Browns, Bengals, and Seahawks he called some plays that make you think… “What was he thinking.”

As the Eagles coach, his record in the regular season is 41-34 (54.6%). In the playoffs his record is 4-2 and all those wins came from the 2017-18 season when they won the Super Bowl with Nick Foles as the quarterback .

Also, Frank Reich was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles from 2016-2017. Within those two years, Wentz had taken the biggest jump and looked like an MVP favorite leading the NFC East.

Since his departure, the Eagles have struggled offensively…

  • 2018: 18th in points, 14th in yards
  • 2019: 12th in points, 14th in yards
  • 2020: 22nd in points, 15th in yards

The question now is if Pederson can help the Eagles win their last 4 games and make the playoffs. This upcoming week they face the Saints who are coming off a 9 game win streak. With the way the team is playing, I don’t see them making the playoffs and winning their next 4 games.

This could be the last season we see Doug Pederson as the Eagles HC.

3. Carson Wentz

I’m sure many are not surprised to see Wentz here as one of the biggest reasons the Eagles are playing so bad.

The former 2nd overall pick in the 2016 draft is having his worst season this year.

Wentz is leading the league in interceptions and is the most sacked QB. He has been sacked 48 times this season and with 4 more games left, that number will only go up.

Wentz also just signed a massive contract this past offseason, 4-year, $128 million dollars with $70 million guaranteed. This contract starts after his rookie contract is over after this season. That’s is a lot of money for a QB that is playing terribly right now.

Okay, but not everything is Wentz’s fault…

The offensive line has had 11 different starting combinations due to injuries.

Also, the receiving corps isn’t anything to write home about. He doesn’t have that #1 option who can consistently get separation.

As much as I want to say injuries are the reason why Carson Wentz is playing so bad right now, it’s s not. He has regressed this year and looks like he lost all his confidence in himself.

With benching Wentz for Hurts in the Packers game and now that Jalen Hurts is starting for the Saints game. This shows that the team has lost confidence in their franchise quarterback.

In order for Carson Wentz to play better he needs to improve on himself and work on his mechanics.

I still believe in Carson Wentz as the franchise quarterback for the Eagles going forward and that he can look like his 2017 form because we have seen him do it before.

As for the Eagles, I believe that they need to change their GM and Pederson giving up play-calling for the greater good.
