As we know, the 2024 NBA Finals are starting today. Since we already analyzed the status of the Dallas Mavericks ahead of this matchup, it is now the turn for the Celtics. Are they going to have an easy series, or will the team struggle to capitalize on the win and ultimately lose the NBA Finals?
Strengths
Of course, they are on paper, one of, if not the best roster in today’s NBA. This can clearly be an advantage across the board. When playing right, this team is almost unstoppable. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick White have worked extraordinarily well this year, achieving consistency and solid team chemistry overall.
Not only that, but their bench depth has also performed solidly when given a chance, more specifically Al Horford, Payton Pritchard, and Sam Hauser. As a result, it will be an arduous task for the Dallas Mavericks to both guard and attack the Celtics. Tough matchups and fought possessions are definitely to be expected throughout the entire series, but Bostin has managed to close games very well in this postseason.
2024 Playoff Stats:
- Jayson Tatum – 26.0 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 5.9 APG, 44.2 FG%, 29 3P%
- Jaylen Brown – 25.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 2.6 APG, 54.1 FG%, 36.8 3P%
- Derrick White – 17.8 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 4.6 APG, 47.1 FG%, 40.7 3P%
- Jrue Holiday – 12.7 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 4.6 APG, 48.9 FG%, 39.7 3P%
- Kristaps Porzingis – 12.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.8 APG, 38.9 FG%, 40.0 3P%
- Al Horford – 9.9 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 1.9 APG, 46.9 FG%, 34.6 3P%
Weaknesses
Obviously, every team has its weaknesses, and the Celtics are no exception. First and foremost, some would argue that Doncic and Kyrie are a better duo than Tatum and Brown, as Luka is the better offensive player, and Kyrie brings a lot more experience to the table, as well as clutch effectiveness.
Moreover, even though Dallas has never been to the finals in the last 13 years, the Celtics blew up a 2-0 lead in the 2022 NBA Finals, which still poses the question of whether the team is now ready to close and dominate this year’s series or they still lack the drive to close important games and win the NBA Title.
Despite some fans and people claiming that this series is going to be “easy” for the Boston Celtics, we expect the complete opposite, a tough series that will be extremely competitive at all times, with either team being able to exceed all expectations and take a ring home.
