Can Jalen Hurts be the Franchise Quarterback for The Eagles?

Can Jalen Hurts be the Franchise Quarterback for The Eagles?

Jalen Hurts delivered more than a “spark” for the Eagles against the Saints. He got them a victory against the Saints who had the #1 defense in the league.

Hurts threw for 167 passing yards and one touchdown and ran for 106 yards. He was 17 for 30 (56.6%) in his first start after the benching of Carson Wentz.

His stats don’t stand out as much, but he was able to do all the things that Carson Wentz was doing wrong. In multiple plays he got pressured, but knew to throw it out instead of getting sacked. He got some big first down running the ball. Hurts did fumble the ball during the 4th quarter in which the Saints scored and then kicked an onside kick, but besides that, he didn’t throw an interception or forced throws.

The O-line also benefited from the decision making of Hurts as they gave up zero sacks and that is huge because they have had 12 different O-line combinations throughout the season.

With this win, the Eagles are now 4-8-1, 3rd in the NFC East behind the Giants and the Washington Football Team. The Eagles are still capable of winning the NFC East and in order to do that they need to win. This is not going to be easy as they face the Cardinals (7-6), Cowboys (4-9), and Washington (6-7) in the last 3 games left of the season.

Now the major question is who will be the starting QB for the Eagles? I believe it should be Jalen Hurts.

Why?

  1. With only 3 games left, you should play Hurts to see what he is capable of doing on the field.

2. Also with Carson Wentz playing bad and not looking like the franchise QB for the Eagles.

3. The team looked different with Hurts than with Carson. The offense looked better and was able to have good drives and convert 3rd downs.

4. The Eagles have nothing to lose.

But the major question is that can Hurts be the franchise QB for the Eagles?

Right now there really isn’t much tape on Hurts and what he can do to decide on that matter. We’re going to have to see how he plays the rest of the way to potentially decide on that.
