The Detroit Pistons and Blake Griffin have just agreed on a buyout. A lot of teams will be trying to acquire the 6x All-Star and I fully expect him to land on a playoff contender. Blake Griffin is having an awful season efficiency-wise (36.5% FG & 31.5% 3PT), but I could see that changing in a new situation.
Let’s get into the top landing spots for Blake Griffin…
1. Los Angeles Lakers
This doesn’t become any more clear, the Lakers need a player to take on some of the offensive load from the power forward position and Blake Griffin is the perfect player to do so. They could use Blake Griffin in the starting lineup immediately and he would play a vital part on offense. Although Kuzma hasn’t looked bad in the starting lineup, he fits better off the bench, and adding Griffin allows that.
Although Griffin’s athleticism isn’t the same as his Clipper days, I wouldn’t mind seeing some LeBron to Griffin lobs. Blake Griffin could bring that energy to the Lakers that they’ve been lacking ever since the AD injury.
2. Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks have been looking for another reliable scoring option other than Luka and Porzingis and Blake Griffin can be just that. Blake Griffin has struggled mightily this season and hasn’t played up to what he used to be, but I can see him flourishing in a new system like the Mavs.
Let’s be honest, playing on the Pistons can be demoralizing as they’ve been a losing franchise as of late. Going into a winning environment on the Mavericks where they’re sitting at 18-16 and 8th in the West, we could see a new Blake Griffin. The Mavericks want to get back into being a top 4-5 seed in the West and adding another player that can score in the starting lineup without giving assets is something they should definitely be looking into.
3. Miami Heat
Although the Heat have been playing better as of recent, they still don’t look like the team they once did in the bubble a few months back. They seem to be lacking a spark on the team and adding Blake Griffin could add just that. Blake Griffin could be inserted into the starting lineup immediately at the PF position and be used as another option.
Blake Griffin isn’t the star he used to be, but he could still provide valuable minutes to a team as a scorer. Being on a team with a mentality like the Heat could bring a side of Blake Griffin we haven’t seen in a while. Personally, I think this is the best option for Blake Griffin to have a career resurgence again and be a player of value for a contending team.
