2022-23 NFL Quarterback Tiers

2022-23 NFL Quarterback Tiers

The NFL season is upon us with the preseason starting up. It’s only right we start the season off with some tiers and doing quarterbacks is essential. There are a lot of levels of quarterbacks in today’s game. Some being superstars, some on the verge of stardom, and others just being… meh. Let’s get into some of the quarterback tiers for this upcoming 2022-23 NFL season.

Check out the WR tiers here.

Superstar/HOF QBs

  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Tom Brady
  • Justin Herbert
  • Josh Allen
  • Joe Burrow
  • Lamar Jackson

This set of quarterbacks have proved to be able to carry their respective teams. There’s obvious Hall Of Famers in Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady, but also up-and-coming future HOFers in Allen, Herbert, Burrow, and Jackson. Joe Burrow was able to take his team to the Superbowl in his first year of starting a whole season and looks to improve. Although Justin Herbert hasn’t made the playoffs yet, his talent is too high not to put him at this level.

Franchise QBs

  • Matthew Stafford
  • Kyler Murray
  • Dak Prescott
  • Russell Wilson
  • Deshaun Watson
  • Derek Carr
  • Kirk Cousins
  • Matt Ryan

I know what you’re thinking. How is Matthew Stafford not a superstar QB? The Rams went to the Superbowl prior to getting Stafford with Jared Goff, so I don’t think I have him as high as others might for that reason. He came to a team that was extremely talented already and just added to it. I do think he’s one of the upper-echelon of franchise quarterbacks, with Kyler and Russell Wilson included. Deshaun Watson would be a superstar quarterback if we saw him play recently, but uh… yeah.

Average QBs at best

  • Jared Goff
  • Ryan Tannehill
  • Jimmy Garoppolo
  • Carson Wentz
  • Jameis Winston
  • Tua Tagovailoa
  • Mitch Trubisky
  • Marcus Mariota
  • Daniel Jones
  • Drew Lock
  • Baker Mayfield

A lot of these quarterbacks have had the chance to show they’re a superstar quarterback, but just kind of had always been meh their whole career. They’ve shown signs of promise, but have just been average for most of their career. Jared Goff is probably the best example of this tier, a quarterback that doesn’t necessarily move the needle nor break your team. A tier of … mehs.

Young bucks

  • Jalen Hurts
  • Trevor Lawrence
  • Zach Wilson
  • Trey Lance
  • Mac Jones
  • Justin Fields
  • Davis Mills

This tier of quarterbacks are sort of the unproven players. These ones have still a lot to prove and are relatively young in doing so. Mac Jones looked like the best of this crop this past season, but we will see with time who moves up the tiers from this list.
