As the 2024-25 NBA season tips off, the Philadelphia 76ers find themselves in an exciting but challenging position. After another failed playoff run last season, they’ve made some major changes, most notably adding Paul George to the roster. With George’s two-way versatility and proven playoff experience, the Sixers are clearly aiming to make a serious push for the Finals this upcoming year.
Embiid + Maxey + PG = Success?
At the core of the team is Joel Embiid, who continues to play at an MVP level despite the criticism. As long as Embiid is healthy, the Sixers will be a force in the Eastern Conference. His dominance on both ends of the floor, combined with his leadership, makes him the team’s focal point, and the new addition of Paul George could help unlock more space and scoring opportunities for him.
But perhaps the most exciting development for the team has been the rise of Tyrese Maxey. Last season, Maxey made the jump to stardom, emerging as one of the league’s most electrifying young guards. His speed, shooting, and ability to get to the rim have turned him into a legitimate scoring threat. Maxey’s growth couldn’t have come at a better time for Philly, as his presence now forms a dynamic trio with Embiid and George.
On paper, the Sixers have one of the best cores in the league, but the road to the Finals won’t be easy. The Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics, and even the Miami Heat are a massive threat in the East, and let’s not forget the Knicks, who knocked them out of the 2024 Playoffs. The Eastern Conference is stacked, and Philadelphia will need to hit the ground running to keep up with these powerhouse teams.
For the 76ers, the key this season will be staying healthy and figuring out how to maximize the chemistry between Embiid, Maxey, and George. If all three are firing on all cylinders, the Sixers could finally break through and reach the NBA Finals, or at least the ECF. But with such fierce competition, they’ll need everything to go right to make that dream a reality.
