Let me just preface by saying that most of these will end up being overreactions and potentially make me look very stupid by the end of the season… but I’m willing to put my life on the line for you all (Not really, sorry). There’s been a good amount of key trends that have been pretty apparent this season so far in the first set of games, let’s get into some reactions to the 1st week of the 2024-25 NBA regular season…
Anthony Davis = MVP?
Through two games, it’s been pretty obvious what JJ Reddick’s focus has been… giving AD the ball and letting everything else happen after. Anthony Davis is averaging 35.5 PPG through first two games and has looked like an unstoppable beast.
We all know what a motivated Anthony Davis can look like and seeing him being unlocked and utilized in the Reddick offense has been a sight to see. If the Lakers can stay a top seed in the Western Conference behind AD playing continuously great like this… there’s no doubt in my mind he’ll end up with his 1st MVP award.
Celtics On Another Level
The Boston Celtics have shown again that they are not to be f*cked with. Their starting 5 is still the best in the league and it’s shown. They’ve beat teams basically without breaking a sweat. They’re playing so well and they don’t even have Porzingis back yet. If a time traveler came and told me the Celtics won 70 games this season, I wouldn’t be one bit surprised.. they’ve shown that kind of dominance so far.
Warriors Depth is INSANE
The Golden State Warriors have the highest margin of victory this season already, beating teams by 77 points in the first two games already. Surely they’ve played the Trail Blazers and Jazz only, but how they’ve beat them has been what’s been surprising. Their impressive depth with players like Buddy Hield and Brandin Podziemski off the bench, they’ve just been beating on these bad teams.
Spurs Not Ready Yet..
The San Antonio Spurs have a good amount of young talent around Victor Wembanyama with players like Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Julian Champagnie, Tre Jones, Jeremy Sochan, and others. Some fans around the league thought the Spurs could make a potential push for the play-in or even playoffs this season with Chris Paul as the veteran feeding Wembanyama the ball.
From the looks of it (Yes, I know it’s the first game) so far, they haven’t looked ready at all and Wembanyama has seemingly forgotten that he’s a 7’4 unicorn.
