The third team on this list is The Warriors. After a tumultuous 2023-24 season, they are back and have surprised the entire league with their new system and redefined playstyle. So far, they have dominated the league since the new NBA season started. What are the key aspects of this performance boost?
New System
The departure of Klay Thompson and the addition of Buddy Hield was a really important part of the Warriors’ change in their system and playstyle. Steph Curry‘s usage of the ball has lowered, and the offensive opportunities have been distributed more equally among and within the team.
Curry no longer needs to be scoring over 29 points per game for the Warriors to even have a chance of winning games. Now it is more equal among all players. He is still the undoubted leader of this organization, but now they’re more focused on team success rather than individual.
Bench
One very surprising stat that is floating around right now is that the Warriors bench is the most productive in NBA history. With a combined 58 points per game, unreal.
Seven players are averaging more than 9.6 points per game, which is a really good indicator of how they’re trying to manage this new roster and this new approach to be successful in the NBA.
Warriors full roster:
Stephen Curry, Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, De’Anthony Melton, Moses Moody, Draymond Green, Brandin Podziemski, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Kyle Anderson, Kevon Looney, Lindy Waters III, Gary Payton II, Pat Spencer, Gui Santos, Reece Beekman.
Weaknesses
Despite them still having two of the key players of the greatest dynasty of all time, the Warriors are completely different than in previous years. They still do not have a big man who can compete with rivals such as Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokić, Victor Wembanyama, and Anthony Davis, to name a few. Therefore, this may come as a setback for them in winning games against these specific teams. Luckily, they have managed to overcome these difficulties so far over the first games of the season.
Lastly, we need to see how the young players respond when it matters most. In the clutch games and ultimately in the playoff scenarios, this is quite important as a lot of these players do not have the experience it takes to win in these types of situations. But then again, they have a lot of experienced players who can be a pretty positive influence on their game.
