Continuing with our yearly record projections, it is now the turn of the interesting NBA Southwest Division, yet another highly competitive group that becomes harder to predict as the start of the season gets closer, now 30 days away from tipoff. How might these teams end the season?
Dallas Mavericks
After their failed attempt to consolidate the team and make a playoff run, the Mavericks need to redeem themselves this upcoming year. With excellent off-season movements, the team’s future is looking bright, with high hopes of clinching a solid Western Conference seed as a result.
23-24 Record: 43-39
Memphis Grizzlies
Despite the controversies surrounding this squad, they performed exceptionally well during the regular season stage, clinching the number two seed in a highly competitive conference. Nevertheless, we expect this next year to be even more competitive than ever, which can make it hard for the Grizzlies to accomplish a similar goal.
23-24 Record: 41-41
New Orleans Pelicans
Provided the Pelicans stay away from injuries, they can very well be in the top 5 of the conference. We have yet to see a consistent season from this team in particular; however, the talent and potential they possess is simply undeniable, being able to compete against the more experienced groups.
23-24 Record: 44-38
San Antonio Spurs
Since this is one of the teams leaving their “tanking” stage after getting a top draft pick, it becomes much more difficult to anticipate their performance across the board, as many unknown factors will come into play while the season progresses. Even still, it is safe to say that the Spurs may clinch a play-in seed.
23-24 Record: 39-43
Houston Rockets
The Rockets made doubtful movements during the summer in preparation for next season, which leaves us uncertain about their future. They can either thrive or have a failed year, and there does not seem to be any in-between. What is certain is that they will improve their last season’s subpar win record.
23-24 Record: 38-44
We could not be more excited about the start of next season. Particularly in the Western Conference, the playoff race will be EVEN CLOSER than last year’s, and this upcoming NBA season has the potential to be one of the best in league history.
