There’s always the usual MVP candidates these past few years: James Harden, Giannis Antetokounmpo, or LeBron James. These three have dominated the MVP conversations of the past years and deservedly so.

Here are some underrated MVP candidates that can potentially take over as an MVP this year possibly…

Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Luka Doncic is probably the most popular MVP candidate other than the three named above. Doncic played like an MVP candidate this past year but didn’t get a serious consideration due to obviously Giannis and the Bucks being #1 seed in East behind Giannis’s play, LeBron and the Lakers being #1 seed in West behind LeBron’s play, or James Harden’s statistics this past year.

Doncic has a chance to be a serious MVP candidate this year. He led the Dallas Mavericks to the playoffs and played exceptionally well as well. If the Mavericks do make some moves this upcoming offseason, they could be a higher seed and then it will in due shed more light to the importance and value of Luka Doncic.

Doncic is definitely a player to watch out for this upcoming season for the MVP award.

Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets

If the Brooklyn Nets become a top 2 seed next season in the Eastern conference then look for Kevin Durant to be in the running to get his 2nd MVP award. Kevin Durant when not injured is one of the best basketball players in the league. Some may even go to say that he’s arguably the best basketball player on the planet right now (when healthy of course!). I’m not going to sit here and say he is but when KD has been healthy he’s been a consistent MVP candidate.

If the Nets play at a high level and prove they are legit in the Eastern conference and an actual championship contending team, KD will definitely be an MVP candidate. Kevin Durant in his last year averaged 26 PPG on 52.1% from the field.

If the Nets show success in the Eastern conference, the Kevin Durant MVP conversation will be pretty loud…

Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

Stephen Curry was injured for majority of the 2019-2020 season of the NBA. If the Warriors come back to their usual greatness and be a top 3 seed in the Western conference, Stephen Curry will definitely be considered a top 3 MVP candidate. Curry and the Warriors were dominant as a team before they got Kevin Durant and won two championships with him.

They went 73-9 without KD and they can again be dominant without him as well. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green were all All-Stars when they were in their primes. Although they’re much older now, they can still be as effective as they once were.

If Curry proves that they’re as good as they once were and Curry goes back to playing like his beast self… expect him to be a top MVP candidate too.
