The Los Angeles Lakers are always in the mix when it comes to championship talk, and the 2024-25 season is no different. With LeBron James entering his 21st season and Anthony Davis still a dominant force, many fans are wondering if this could be their year. After a few rocky seasons since their 2020 title, the Lakers have made some key moves to strengthen their roster. But the big question is: Do they really have what it takes to go all the way?
Current Lakers’ Roster
Colin Castleton, Max Christie, Anthony Davis, Jordan Goodwin, Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Bronny James, LeBron James, Kylor Kelley, Dalton Knecht, Christian Koloko, Maxwell Lewis, Quincy Olivari, Austin Reaves, Cam Reddish, D’Angelo Russell, Armel Traore, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Christian Wood
LeBron may be pushing 40, but he’s still one of the most reliable players in the league. His experience in high-pressure games is second to none, and Davis, when healthy, can take over on both ends of the floor. The Lakers also brought in new faces like Gabe Vincent and Christian Wood, who should help with scoring and depth. If this group can stay healthy and find their rhythm early, they’ve got a solid shot. However, health has always been a concern for Davis, and the Lakers’ success heavily depends on his availability throughout the season.
Still, winning a championship won’t be easy at all. The Western Conference is packed with contenders, like the 2023 champions Denver Nuggets, the Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and even the Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers have to improve their defense, especially against teams with strong perimeter shooters. Plus, with several new players, it’s uncertain how quickly the team will gel. Injuries could also become an issue if LeBron or Davis miss time, putting extra pressure on the supporting cast to step up.
All in all, the Lakers have the pieces to make a title run, but it won’t come without challenges. They’ll need to stay healthy and build chemistry fast if they want to compete with the best teams in the league. If they can pull it together, though, they could be in the mix for the 2024-25 championship.
